“Sometimes I hear other guys talk about their dads,” the 18 year old said. “They’ll talk about their dad teaching them to work on a car or say their dad showed them this or that.”
Then quietly and sadly he said, “I don’t remember my dad ever teaching me anything. I can’t say I even remember knowing my dad. I remember one time when I think I was about four years old, that he showed up for a few days and he built a porch on the front of our house. He’s like a stranger. But I remember he built the porch.”
